How to make delicious hot chocolate
Chocolate is to many of us a delicacy, which comes to mind every time we crave for something sweet. But what most don’t know is that it was first savored as a drink.

Such a drink can be a great option for cold winter nights, for a romantic evening or for a party. It can even be a delicious dessert when cooled down.
There are hundreds of versions of this drink all around the world, with different spices and condiments added: cinnamon, chilly, liquors, mint, and coconut. But the base is still chocolate, milk, vanilla and sugar.

You should follow some rules:

- Only use the best dark chocolate. You can also use some chocolate you’re not going to eat anymore by itself, its taste will mingle with the rest of the ingredients.
- Only use fresh milk, if possible bought from farmers.
- Add the sugar towards the end, according to your own taste.
- Add a pinch of salt, it will give it a special flavor.
- Use a knife that was never used to cut up onion, garlic and other sort of vegetables. That taste could be passed on to the chocolate. Before using the knife or grater, was the utensils and dry them off.
- Always use the Bain Marie method so you don’t burn the chocolate (although you shouldn’t ever use a direct heat source). You may place the milk dish above a water bowl, so that when the water burns, it heats up the dish above it.
- Instead of milk, you could use water, but the final taste will be much different.
- On Christmas you can add marshmallows or candy canes.
- If you want a blend of tastes and savors, you can mix several types of chocolate.
The basic recipe for hot chocolate is:
For about 10 servings, you need:
- 8 cups of milk
- 1 cup of sugar
- 1 table spoon of vanilla essence
- 2 dark chocolate tablets.
How to make hot chocolate:

- Dice up small pieces of chocolate and then place them into a mixer bowl. You could also use a grater, so the pieces are even smaller.
- Heat up the milk on a small flame, until it’s so hot that you can’t dip your finger into it.
- Add the vanilla and a bit of sugar, and mix until they are dissolved. Then stop the heat source.
- Take a cup of milk and add it onto the diced chocolate. Allow the chocolate to melt and use a spoon to make sure it’s all in contact with the milk.
- Gradually add all of the milk over the chocolate, continuously stirring. After the milk is done, stir for a couple of minutes to get even more density.
- Towards the end, taste for sugar. If it does require more, add some more, constantly tasting.
- Add the composition obtained into cups. Before that you could even add liquor, mint or anything else, stirring firmly.
- Before serving it, you could decorate it with whipped cream.
